A Holocaust survivor’s Vaucluse mansion and a Luigi Rosselli-designed construction boss’s Bellevue Hill trophy home are among the enticing offerings in Sydney’s east this spring.

A Holocaust survivor’s Vaucluse mansion and a Luigi Rosselli-designed construction boss’s Bellevue Hill trophy home are among the enticing offerings in Sydney’s east this spring.

But you’ll need deep pockets.

Both 30 Wentworth Rd, Vaucluse, which records show is owned by the late Gerry Fischl and his wife, Eva, and 6 Rupertswood Ave, Bellevue Hill, owned by the director of Evolution Precast Systems, Nick Leos and his wife, Emma, have a $28m price guide.

The agent for both homes, Sotheby’s managing director Michael Pallier, says the top-end of the market remains “very strong, it hasn’t changed at all”.

Though he estimates that the middle-range and lower priced properties are down 10 per cent from the peak.

“There are a lack of good properties around but a lot of buyers,” he said.

“The expats are coming back or ready to come back.”

Property records indicate the Fischls bought the four-bedroom, four-bathroom residence on a 1,163sqm block with panoramic harbour views including the Bridge and Opera House in 1986 for $700,000.

Both Gerry, who passed away earlier this year at the age of 93, and Eva, were an integral part of JewishCare NSW.

Eva was president of the organisation for 15 years and Fischl House, a community centre, was named after Gerry’s parents.

Gerry Fischl was born in Prague in 1929 and his father took the family to France in 1939, thinking they’d be safe from the Nazis.

During the German occupation, a Catholic family risked their lives to hide the Fischls for two years.

Their two-storey home has been carefully maintained over the years, with highlights including a formal dining room with space for a grand 24-seat table and a pool with a breathtaking harbour backdrop.

Meanwhile, the Rupertswood Ave residence on a 790sqm block has five bedrooms, five bathrooms and a double garage.

Described as “a trophy home of glamour, prestige and luxury”, former owners fashion designer Camilla Freeman-Topper and her husband David Topper had the place redesigned by architect to the stars, Luigi Rosselli.

The Leos bought it for $16.5m in 2018. They’re now returning to their hometown of Melbourne.

Calls for an ‘emergency’ freeze on rents has been slammed as lacking in any fundamental understanding of the issue. But the claim has support in some areas.

The Prime Minister has thrown his support behind a plan to help solve Australia’s housing crisis and also benefit the bush.
