Aston Villa’s most realistic signing for the rest of the summer transfer window is Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos, according to 90min.

In a post on the news outlet’s official Twitter account on Thursday (18 August), the remaining “realistic top signings for each Premier League club” were listed.

Morelos, 26, is apparently a realistic addition for Steven Gerrard at Villa Park.

We’re not sure how this has emerged.

Villa have been linked with a lot of players this summer but we don’t remember seeing anything concrete about Morelos making a move to Villa Park.

It’s a surprise really.

Speculation surrounding the Colombia international’s future has been very minimal even though he’s in the final year of his contract at Ibrox and Antonio Colak has started to play so well.

Morelos is a proven goalscorer in the Scottish Premiership but is yet to start a game this season.

Injury and fitness issues are probably to blame but with Colak performing well, there won’t be a mad rush for the Colombian to start for Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

But still, we shouldn’t be selling him.

Morelos is still a star of Ibrox and he needs to be offered a new contract as soon as possible to at least ensure he doesn’t leave on a free transfer next year or agree a pre-contract elsewhere in January.

We really hope Villa don’t come in with a move for him but even if they did, why would he go to a club who already have two good strikers in Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings?
